The Governor’s Budget
In the budget recommendations he presented on Monday, Governor Pawlenty confirmed the “very dramatic and painful spending reductions” that he predicted in last week’s State of the State address. And although the Governor proposed no spending reductions for K-12, he also made no provision in his budget recommendations for paying back the $1.7 billion he cut from schools last session via unallotment. - More -

“Weighing the cow…”
At Representative Mariani’s House K-12 Education Policy Committee meeting on Tuesday, Kent Pekel, director of the U of M’s College Readiness Consortium, testified on the high school assessments and accountability task force recommendations. The charge of the task force was to “develop recommendations for the next generation of Minnesota’s high school assessment and accountability system” – in essence, to align high school assessments with college readiness. The Commissioner of Education will testify on those recommendations next week.
